If you want to do the HTML yourself there's a button at the top of the editor that says "HTML." When you click that that brings up the source code and you can edit it directly. Ultimately I've found it's just easier to let it do the coding for me whenever possible, though. I had the same problem when I posted my links. The only way I could get it to work was by using WordPress' editor and inserting them. Click on + sign and that'll open up the image & rss urls. Add the url of the image and voila! Instant button. I hope those instructions makes sense.
