FO: Scarf August 19, 2006

Posted by craftbq in FO, Knitting.

I’m pleased to announce I have finished my first BGAL project! Okay, granted, I actually finished over a week ago so technically I’m pleased to announce I finally got off my butt and uploaded pictures of it. Ahem.

Anyway, this is a basic scarf with 2×2 ribbing and some fringe. Blue’s the primary color with gold stripes for accents. I did it for ladybug218:

That handsome fellow in the background would be my kitty Mac, who clearly would like me to stop taking pictures so he could continue his nap.

I finished my scarf last week. I posted pictures to my livejournal.
It’s bronze, not gold, but TBQ said that was okay.

BGAL progress June 4, 2006

Hi, I'm Kajivar, aka Nicole, and I'm doing cross stitch for the BGAL. I've actually made a some progress this weekend. I'm doing a simple Celtic-y pattern in blue, gold, black, and maroon. So far this is what I have done. 🙂

And if someone could tell me how to make this editor accept my HTML without editing it 100 times, I'd be forever grateful.

So this is what I've picked as my first project for BGAL. Only one teaser pic at the moment because I'm a dork like that. Anybody who's done this type of knitting before can probably guess what it is, though.

I'm using the Knitpicks yarn that I posted about earlier.

In honor of our start date, I bring you buttons!

My graphics-fu is week so if anybody wants to make their own and/or improve on mine, by all means go right ahead.

In the meanwhile, here's a few for you to use however you'd like.  No hotlinking, s'il vous plait! 🙂

Hi, everyone. Thank heavens the start date was set for June 1…I was sure I'd missed it! My name's Suzanne, in case you didn't see the original post.

My original intention for my BGAL project was baby sweaters…although I think I may still be a bit shy of such a project. I haven't knit in a while, and I have to be sure I remember everything. I am spinning some blue yarn now and plan to start with some simple baby booties – something I've done in the past, so I won't be too scared to start right away 😉

A very good friend of mine is pregnant with her first baby, so it's going to be baby sized projects for a while.

Looking forward to seeing what everyone makes!

I predict my BGAL projects are going to be a LOT of knitted scarves and hats.  Of course my perfectionist, OCD nature insists on making these as complicated as humanly possible, but we'll see if I can thwap myself and behave in order to actually get something done 😉

Odds are good I'll be using KnitPicks yarn for most of it. I've never worked with their Wool of the Andes before so here's my first go.  These are the yarns that I've got right now. That's Winter Night and Daffodil.  The Daffodil isn't quite as gold as I'd like, but I'm swatching something at the moment and it's not as bad as I suspected either.  We'll see how it goes.

I'm hoping to order a color card from them too. I would've done it with this order but they didn't have any in stock and I didn't want to wait on the yarn.  When I do I'll try to give recs on colors that would work for our theme. 🙂

And the floss rolls merrily along… May 22, 2006

Hi, I'm Julia aka hildy on LJ. Since Katie started us off, I figured I'd add my introduction.

I'll be doing cross-stitch for BGAL. I've already pulled together two projects for this adventure, one reasonable project and one Dear-God-what-was-I-thinking? type project.

The reasonable project is a bookmark pattern called "Celestial" I came across while looking through my stash. The chart is from a Bookmarks leaflet from American School of Needlework.

The less reasonable one is a Mirabilia beauty called "Rose of Sharon". The lady is in a golden dress with pale blue accents. I hope it's enough blue to satisfy the requirements. I have the fabric, but I don't quite have all the floss colors yet. But there are no beads or metallics, so it should stitch up fairly easily.

I'm heading off to MediaWest*Con on Thursday, so I will probably start the bookmark early, unless some other project entices me first. Such are the dangerous ways of the floss…

Well, TBQ said we could start posting, and I’m way too excited about this, so…

For everyone I haven’t had the pleasure of interacting with yet, I’m Katie (aka ktnb, aka celestialnature on LJ). I’ve decided to try something new for the BGAL – socks! I keep trying to take pictures of the yarn, but the colors keep coming out funky. I’m using Lang Jawoll Superwash for the navy blue-colored body of the sock, and some Norwegian brand of gold yarn for the toe, heel and stripes. (My local yarn store carries some seriously strange brands of yarn.) I’ve never completed a sock project before, so I’m really excited about working on this one, and I just had to share.
